A Beautiful Poem from John O'Connor Fall 2025
TO MY FRIENDS AT THE WHITBY LAWN BOWLING CLUB
Another season’s come and gone,
The greens now rest, as the chill moves on.
It’s only my second year, you see,
But what a home this club’s become to me.
We’ve rolled our bowls through sun and rain, shared in triumph, loss, and pain.
For though this year brought tears for some, we stood as one together, strong.
There were moments bright with joy and cheer, and laughter ringing clear to hear.
We broke our bread, we shared our care, in friendship’s warmth beyond compare.
From morning draws to twilight games, each face, each story, each cherished name, has filled these greens with life and grace, this club our special meeting place.
So as the season takes its rest,
I wish you all the very best.
May winter’s peace your hearts renew, til springtime brings us back to you.
Thank you all for the joy you bring,
For kindness shown in everything.
Until we meet again next year,
Keep well, my friends and bowl with cheer.
— With gratitude,
